The brief version

The virtual IJC Museum in the Cloud allows visitors like you to enjoy modern artworks by Japan’s representative artists.
You can view works from all directions with 360° freedom and get so close
that you can see the subtlest details and even feel the presence of the artists.

The IJC Museum is a virtual museum in the cloud that exhibits the works of remarkable artists representing the Japanese modern art scene.
Their modes of artistic expression are widely varied — painting, sculpture, 3D, video installation, etc.
Importantly, there are neither boundaries nor display cases between the artworks and the audience.
Without restrictions, this space allows visitors like you to view works from all directions with 360° freedom and
come so close that you can see the subtlest details and feel the presence of the artists.
The last room of the museum includes a careful selection of art venues around Japan.
This serves as a gateway to help visitors discover and enjoy the real world of Japanese modern art.

YAYOI KUSAMA

Yayoi Kusama has constantly created unique artworks — paintings, sculptures, and installations covered in polka-dot and net patterns — to express her concept of repetition and infinity. The virtual IJC Museum exhibits one of her “Pumpkin” sculptures, picked from among her many pumpkin-motif works.

Exhibition 01

Nerhol

Nerhol is an artist unit composed of Yoshihisa Tanaka and Ryuta Iida. Each previously worked independently on different activities. But because they shared common views of art methodology and how to present issues and communicate their vision, they started working as a unit named Nerhol from 2007.

Exhibition 02

MANABU IKEDA

Manabu Ikeda creates colossal-scale world visions with meticulous pen-and-ink work, drawing on childhood experiences in nature and trips. The virtual ICJ Museum exhibits six of his works, including his soaring “Buddha” and “History of Rise and Fall” depicting castles, cherry blossoms, and crowds.

Exhibition 03

TABAIMO

Tabaimo creates video installation art that projects images of Japanese society and her own inner world upon backgrounds of everyday scenes. The result is a succession of organic images combined with kaleidoscopic visions that disturb the viewer’s sense of spatial scale.

Exhibition 04

TAKU OBATA

Taku Obata creates colorful sculptures in wood using “b-boys” (breakdancers) as his main motif. Now this virtual museum — IJC Museum in the Cloud — exhibits one of his dramatic woodcarving works as well as images from his extensive collection of sketches.

Exhibition 05

KOHEI NAWA

Kohei Nawa is an artist who expands the horizon of sculptural art by making full use of various materials and cutting-edge technologies. His work “Manifold” — an outdoor sculpture with a height of 13.1 meters (43 feet) — and his “Trans” series works — featuring 3D-scanned motifs with additional effects on the surfaces — are exhibited in the IJC Museum.

Exhibition 06

HISASHI TENMYOUYA

Hisashi Tenmyouya creates modern Nihon-ga (Japanese-style paintings) based on the aesthetic lineage of Japanese traditional art. His works include “Toukon (Fighting Spirit)”, which is three meters wide; “Japanese Spirit”, his representative series; and “In (Rhyme)”, his first installation art.

Exhibition 07

ART TRIP exhibition room presents 30 carefully selected spots around Japan, including art museums, galleries, international art events, accommodations, facilities, etc. that will help you feel closer to art. Discover satisfying new encounters with art.
