銭湯

Public bathhouse

1 .A facility for taking a bath after payment of a bathing fee. This Japanese-style public bathhouse also functions as a social hub in its neighboring community.

2. Men’s and women’s bathing areas are separated at the entrance leading to dressing rooms. Thus, men and women take baths in entirely separate bathtubs.

3. It is good manners to cleanse your body thoroughly using a shower prior to soaking your body in the bathtub.

4. Bath soap, chilled milk after bathing, and massage chairs are provided but not included in the bathing fee.

5. Bathhouses offer excellent opportunities for viewing Japan’s famous Mt. Fuji, painted on the wall behind the bathtubs.
