BRAIN WAVE CAT EARS

Necomimi (Cat Ears) is not another type of headgear for cosplay enthusiasts. This is an “additive organ” for communication that detects your brain waves and moves the ears in sync. Here’s how it works. A sensor on your forehead gathers brain wave data and the system analyzes the value of “concentration” and “relaxation.” The ears prick up when you concentrate on something and they lie flat when you relax. Since the “fur” on the ears is designed to be changed, you can choose your favorite pattern of ear pieces and enjoy your own individual look. The company that created this unique product, Neurowear, is developing a series of brain-wave-based communication tools, one after another.

“At Neurowear, we were considering what future communications might be like. Then, we started to pay attention to types of biological information that hadn’t been utilized in everyday communications. Among those, we decided to follow brain activities, which usually are not easily captured by the individual or observed by others without devices.Since we needed to put a sensor over the forehead to collect brain waves, we had to make the unit look cute when users wore it. So, we decided energize our communication style — and produce cat ear headwear.”

Necomimi is extremely popular around the world. Demonstrations of Necomimi have been held at various venues, such as cosplay and moe culture festivals including JapanExpo in France, Internet-business-related conferences, and museums for media arts. The result is a great response from people who pay attention to new possibilities in future communication tools.
