TOYOTA x STUDIO4°C collaboration begins
a new PES Project called “Next Generation”

The Peace Eco Smile (PES) Project started in 2012 through the collaboration of TOYOTA and STUDIO4°C. In 2013, as part of the “Next Generation” project, noted directors will release imaginative new animations. The concept of these creative works is “comprehensive environmental ability”, aiming to encourage environmental awareness of global eco-preservation and energy issues. This animation project envisions the realization of one world shared by individuals, society, and nature, living together in harmony.

Our existence is full of mysteries.

In our childhood, we talked to the stars. We could communicate with outer space when we were children. Does becoming an adult mean forsaking such power? Why don’t we use this mysterious power within us? Let’s bring out thispotential ability. With it, we can see the secrets of our world. Our ideas, our energy will create a new world for our future.

Tatsuyuki Tanaka, director

Mr. Tanaka made his debut in the film industry as an animator working on Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira, which showed his strong animation skills. His character design for the video game Linda Cube created a sensation, and a number of his illustration works also proved his remarkable talent. Since then, he has directed short animation films for STUDIO4°C. In addition to working among industry-leading animators, he is widely active in creating acclaimed illustrations and manga, as well as working on production design for live-action films in recent years. Mr. Tanaka’s imaging power has won an enthusiastic following of fans in Japan and receives great international attention as well.

Akaiko-en, music

A four-piece girls’ band (average age 20) from Tokyo, organized in January 2010. This group is unlike any other girls’ band in its impact and dynamic performing capability. Expectations are running high that this year these ladies will get their big break. Band member Maisa Tsuno provides music for other famous artists and her musical talent is now attracting the attention of creators in other fields. In October 2011, Akaiko-en took part in the “Next Music from Tokyo Vol. 3” tour of Canada.

ABOUT
PES(Peace Eco Smile) PROJECT

PES (Peace Eco Smile) is a team project of TOYOTA and STUDIO4°C, a famous creators’ group of experts in high-quality visual design. TOYOTA notes the “TOY” in its corporate name as a reflection of lively and joyous creative energy. The PES project celebrates the “joy of mobility” — one of the essential values of automotive innovation — through high-quality animation featuring original characters. TOYOTA brings its corporate ideals and aspirations to these stories, seeking to draw the attention of viewers to promotion of various social issues. In 2013, PES started a new collaboration project, "NEXT GENERATION - PES (Peace Eco Smile) - CROSS COLLABORATION," to communicate its message globally through producing a full animation film with leading directors and various kinds of collaborations in organic connections with other people, things, and places. Can we together create "the future that everyone wants" to change ideas about mass consumption and economic efficiency today? The energy to do this is actually inside human hearts. The source for putting it in motion is music and this is why PES is making music videos along with a new animation film. The power of anime and music can cross over barriers of language and nation, creating understanding between diverse cultures and civilizations, giving us courage and healing. It is the energy of miracles. PES(Peace Eco Smile) is this new energy, wishing to be the path towards a future we can create at any time.
