1. A type of lunch set available in Western-style and Japanese-style diners in Okinawa. Though called “lunch,” it can even be ordered at night.
2. Lunch “A” was supposedly created in 1956 at the New York Restaurant steakhouse, especially for taxi drivers.
3. This combo meal consists of rice and generous helpings of several different accompanying dishes, all served on one plate.
4. In many cases, Lunch “B” and Lunch “C” are provided as options, but Lunch “A” is the most luxurious and expensive choice.
5. Lunch “A” features a “highlight” meal — the pride of each restaurant where it is served as the recommended special. Eventually, the first Lunch “A” Competition was held in 2011.
