IS JAPAN COOL? TOKYO
Omotesando is among the most sophisticated and fashionable avenues in Tokyo. Since many of its brand shops and commercial buildings are designed by celebrity architects and creators, this area is an elite architectural area. Consider the following buildings:
1. Tokyu Plaza Omotesando Harajuku: A new shopping spot opened in 2012. Polyhedral mirrors at the entrance and Omohara no Mori (Omohara Wood) garden are equally impressive.
2. TOD’S: Architect Toyoo Ito aimed to create a structure in harmony with trees along Omotesando Boulevard. Viewed from any angle, the building resembles the zelkova trees on the street.
3. Omotesando Hills: As his design concept, architect Tadao Ando sought to establish a “second Omotesando within.” Thus, the interior features long descending ramps that direct visitors around the facility, imitating the downhill slopes of Omotesando itself.
4. GYRE: This multilevel building piles one story on top of another in a slightly skewed position. Spaces created by overhanging structures are cleverly utilized for restaurant terraces, external staircases, etc.
