Chubu Centrair International Airport

Tokoname city

A major hub airport ranked No. 7 in the world.

Aichi Prefecture’s gateway to the skies, Chubu International Airport is situated on an artificial island off the coast in Ise Bay. Nicknamed “Centrair,” the airport is about 1 hour by air from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. It offers 24-hour take-off and landing, as well as international flights all across Asia, Hawaii, the United States, and Northern Europe. Transfers to domestic or international flights are also super smooth! In the World's Best Airport 2015 ranking of the world’s top 100 airports, it placed a spectacular seventh.

An entertainment airport, so rarely seen in Japan!?

Every weekend, Chubu Centrair International Airport is crowded with a massive number of visitors. The reason for this is not flights, but rather entertainment and shopping. Just 50m from the taxiway, the Sky Deck offers Japan’s closest airplane viewing spot, and on a massive scale too, which many airplane fans go crazy for. There are also airport tours travelling around on Segway vehicles, a lantern alley modeled after an old-style Japanese post station town, and all kinds of events held in the Event Plaza. For the people of Aichi Prefecture, it’s like a little amusement park.

Looking for a souvenir? The Meihinkan Hall condenses the best of Aichi food culture.

The food culture of Aichi Prefecture varies by area. The airport souvenir shop contains a diverse range of delicious local specialties all in one place. The Meihinkan Hall presents an array of local Aichi specialty foods and products, including a wide range of confectionary and liquor. These include the classic Nagoya souvenir of Yukari shrimp crackers (established 125 years ago), as well as delicious sweet potato flavored oni steamed buns, and subtly sweet uiro-mochi made with the rich texture of rice flour. It’s definitely worth setting foot in here before your departure or after your return.
