A hillside airport situated at an altitude of approximately 200m.

Aomori Airport is situated on a hillside at an elevation of 198 meters. Located 13km south of central Aomori, it's right in the middle of the prefecture. In summer the green mountainous landscape dazzles and refreshes, while in winter arriving on a runway to see the surrounding mountains covered with snow is a fantastic sight. Aomori Airport is also famous for its snow removal squad, “White Impulse,” who are the fastest workers in Japan. These are the unique attractions of Honshu’s northernmost airport.

From Aomori Airport, ANA flights depart to New Chitose Airport and Osaka International (Itami) Airport. International flights also depart for Seoul, offering direct access from Asia. In the winter season in particular, many tourists visit from all over to enjoy winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding. Over the course of the airport’s 50-year history, it has become beloved by Aomori locals, of course, as well as by many tourists.

If you’re keen to buy fresh Aomori seafood, head to the first floor to the airport direct outlet of the Aomori Fisheries Cooperatives. Here a variety of seafood caught in the beautiful Aomori waters is available at reasonable prices, including tuna, scallops, salmon, and abalone. Scallops and tuna are particularly popular. In addition to raw seafood, a wide range of processed products (such as canned goods) is also available, so it’s worth taking the time to look around. After this, visit the ASPAM store (located in the busy retail zone in the second floor) for a wide variety of goods such as local Aomori sweets and other folk crafts. If you time it right, you might catch a rice cracker baking demonstration. Naturally, the fresh-baked rice crackers are also available for purchase.
