Zushi-Hayama
A dreamlike movie festival that appears on the Zushi seashore
The Zushi-Hayama area is a seaside town adjacent to Kamakura. Although it is a quiet residential area surrounded by the ocean and mountains, it is also known as a music and movie town. The most well-known event is the Zushi Beach Film Festival held at the beginning of the summer. The usually quiet beach is adorned with a giant movie screen, and local restaurants, bakeries, and the creative types set up a variety of booths and concession stands for a lively time. It’s an enjoyable experience to sit back and watch movies with a large group of people as the sun sets with a drink in one hand and food in the other. Locals from Zushi and Hayama as well as a large number of fans from Tokyo make their way to the area to enjoy the ocean breeze.
Enjoy music in a stylish café
If you like music, you must visit Hayama’s Days386. The comfortable interior of this refurbished old Japanese-style house features a sound system with large speakers piping out heartwarming music for patrons. Enjoy one of their original hamburgers with fresh veggies on a home-baked bun. With seasonal hamburgers on the menu, you’re sure to find a new flavor even on repeated visits.
Live music alongside the sound of waves
Although there are many unique beach huts (cafés and rest areas near the ocean that serve food and drinks) in Hayama, the Blue Moon is one that features live music. The Blue Moon on Isshiki Beach features relaxing, comfortable music in the summertime only. Once the sun goes down in summer, the live music starts. Come to enjoy the ocean, the music, the coffee using roasted beans from Hayama, and food made with fresh vegetables delivered from the Miura Peninsula. With all these elements as a package, you’re sure to have an unforgettable time. The people of Zushi and Hayama know how to enjoy life. If you visit this area, you’re sure to reaffirm the importance of keeping some fun in your everyday life.
