Niigata Airport

Niigata City

The Sea of Japan, right before your eyes! This gateway to the skies is also close to the city of Niigata.

Sky access to Niigata is via Narita Airport if you’re in Tokyo. From the Kansai area, you should head first to Itami Airport. International flights also depart from Shanghai and Harbin in China and Seoul in South Korea, so you should definitely incorporate Niigata into your travel plans. The airport is on the Sea of Japan side, and is situated close to Niigata Station—only 25 minutes away via shuttle bus. If you have several days to enjoy Niigata (which stretches north to south), it’s probably a good idea to stay near Niigata Station, since it’s quite in the center of the prefecture. It's also handy for access to Niigata Airport.

Free airport Wi-Fi— wait in comfort until your flight

Niigata Airport has many places to spend some leisurely time before your flight. The third floor Airium Lounge is a paid lounge equipped with showers, free drinks, and free-to-read magazines and newspapers. It’s available for 2 hours for 1000 yen. The roof level also has an observation deck. Although it costs 100 yen to enter, this ensures it’s well maintained, and it's a popular spot to spend some leisurely time. If you want to refresh from your travel fatigue, head to the relaxation salon. It has a full range of therapies including Hong Kong-style manual therapy, Thai-style massage, and Balinese foot massage.

From meals to souvenirs of Niigata

When your stomach starts rumbling, head out for a nice meal in the restaurant area. The Suzakaya soba noodle restaurant is well known for the Niigata specialty hegisoba, characterized by the unique texture of seaweed made into buckwheat noodle dough. The Acacia souvenir store located on the second floor carries typical Niigata seafood, mountain vegetables, souvenirs, and many kinds of folk art. It stocks sake, as well as Niigata favorites such as “bamboo-leaf dumpling" candy—the wide range of items makes it an ideal place to pick up a souvenir or two.
